ABOUT CHIROPRACTIC?

Chiropractic began over 100 years ago when D. D. Palmer performed an “adjustment” on a janitor in Davenport, Iowa.  It’s reported the janitor had lost his hearing after hearing a pop in his neck. The "adjustment" helped improve the janitors hearing.  Dr. Palmer theorized that misaligned vertebrae interfered with the function of the spinal nerves, thereby blocking the patient’s natural healing ability.

Chiropractic is a “holistic” approach to health care.  This means that the body works best when in perfect balance physically, chemically and emotionally.  The primary system in the body to help us keep this balance is the nervous system.  This is why chiropractors evaluate and correct “spinal subluxations” that could cause a disruption of the nervous system. (see “Conditions & Symptoms”)

Along with the spinal corrections(adjustments) a chiropractor performs on the subluxated vertebrae, the body may need additional help to balance the systems.  This is why suggestions regarding diet, nutritional supplements and life style changes may be considered.

Chiropractors receive an extensive education and must pass national and state board exams.  Below is a chart depicting chiropractic education as it compares with medical schools.  It was compiled from a review of 22 medical and 11 chiropractic college curriculums.
